The second trail chosen as a Quality Education Fund
Plant Study Trail is the Pui O Beach on the southern side
of Lantau Island. It is one of the most beautiful sandy
beaches in Hong Kong and a gazetted bathing beach.
Sandy beaches represent a harsh
habitat that is inhabited by plants adapted
to xerophytic intertidal conditions. So far, more than
100 species of vascular
plants are found on Pui O Beach.
A continuous flash image of
the vegetation along the beach was developed and uploaded
on this website. Plants appearing in the flash images
are marked with sensitive points which, when hit, would
provide the names of the corresponding plants. Students
and tourists are invited to use this trail as a virtual
field trip or virtual ecotour and identify and learn the
profiles of the plants there.
Relevant old photos and
literary works are
also kept on our website to enrich your enjoyment of
this Trail. Should you wish to donate the image of any
such photos and know of information on relevant works
concerning Pui O Beach, kindly forward them to us at
<

>.
You are highly recommended to actually visit Pui O
Beach. With its clear water and fine sand, a field study
or leisure walk along the Beach can be very enjoyable.
It is easily accessible by bus No. 3 and 3M at Tung
Chung MTR Station or No. 1, 2, 3, 3M, 4, or 7P at Mui
Wo Ferry Pier, and by car or taxi.
